Gregor Maehle Workshop at Modern Yogi Nafplio

Saturday 5th June to Sunday 6th June, 2027

· Total Tuition: 10 hours ·

Saturday at 7:00 - Ashtanga Led Primary (guided)

Gregor will analyse the detailed anatomical aspects of the accessible postures of the Primary Series while maintaining as much pace as possible. The focus is on breaking down the different stages of entering and exiting the postures into their components.

Performing postures safely while understanding which anatomical actions allow us to deepen into the asanas prevents unnecessary energy expenditure. By emotions stored in bodily tissue, preparing us for the higher limbs of pranayama and meditation.

Saturday at 11.30 - Pranayama & Kriya

Imagine having a switch that, when activated, allows you to consciously choose between your right and left-brain hemispheres, intuitive and analytical intelligence, sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, fight or flight response and rest or relaxation, as well as between the male and female, solar and lunar aspects of your psyche. How wonderful it would be if, when needed, you could shift from being compassionate to stubbornly determined. Or from being energized to completely relaxed in just a few minutes. Or from extrovert (being physically present, expressive and outgoing) to introvert (reflective and absorbed) within a short span of time. This switch does, in fact, exist, and it is not hidden at all. It is the prominently protruding olfactory orifice right in the center of your face: your nose.

Pranayama includes some of the most neglected yet powerful methods of yoga. It is the vital link that connects asana to meditation, without which the combined benefits of both cannot be realized. Learn how to use pranayama to harmonize the doshas (humours of the body) and thus achieve a state of health and balance, as well as how to still the mind, enabling spiritual insight.

The kriyas are mainly techniques for cleansing the body. They support the practice of postures and are particularly beneficial for individuals living in large cities. They help remove contamination from chemical, environmental, electrical, biological, and electromagnetic sources.

Sunday at 7.00 - Ashtanga Mysore Style

The Mysore-style format provides students with a valuable opportunity to apply the insights gained from the Led class, while enabling Gregor (and Monica) to offer personalized attention tailored to each student’s unique needs. This approach ensures that every student receives the individual support they need, helping them feel valued and supported throughout their learning journey.

Sunday at 11.30 - Yogic Meditation

Through Mantra, Chakras and Kundalini to Spiritual Freedom

Unlike Vedantic or Buddhist meditation, yogic meditation shares the same structural elements as yogic postures and breathing and was designed to form a unified whole with them.

Meditation is a method of bringing your mind into a receptive state so that you can receive higher knowledge that is already present. Yogic meditation consists of scientific techniques aimed at cultivating such awareness. To hasten spiritual evolution, yogic meditation employs many methods, among which the primary ones are mantra, mudra, bandha, chakra-visualization, and Kundalini-raising techniques.

The yogic chakras represent evolutionary brain circuitry, with the lower three chakras symbolizing our reptilian, mammalian, and primate ancestry respectively. By understanding the chakras and practicing focused meditation on them, yoga provides the opportunity to activate higher brain centers and advance the evolution not only of the individual but also of society as a whole. Kundalini-raising techniques involve a combination of all other yogic methods to elevate the life force (prana) to a level where meditation becomes effortless and spiritual insight flows more easily.

About Gregor Maehle:

Gregor Maehle started his yogic journey 48 years ago. In the mid-1980s, he began travelling to India annually, where he studied with various yogic and tantric masters, traditional Indian sadhus, and ascetics. He spent fourteen months in Mysore, and in 1997, he was authorized to teach Ashtanga Yoga by K. Pattabhi Jois. Since then, he has expanded his research into the anatomical alignment of postures and the higher limbs of yoga.

In India, Gregor also received eight months of mostly one-on-one instruction in scripture and the higher limbs of Yoga through B.N.S. Iyengar, a student of T. Krishnamacharya. He studied Sanskrit under Professor Narayanachar and Dr Chandrasekhar.

Gregor’s internationally acclaimed textbook series, comprising Ashtanga Yoga: Practice and Philosophy, Ashtanga Yoga: The Intermediate Series, Pranayama: The Breath of Yoga, Yoga Meditation: Through Mantra, Chakras and Kundalini to Spiritual Freedom, Samadhi: The Great Freedom, How to Find Your Life’s Divine Purpose, Chakras, Drugs & Evolution, Mudras: Seals of Yoga, Bhakti: Yoga of Love, and Ashtanga Yoga: The Primary Series 2 nd Expanded Edition, has sold more than 150,000 copies worldwide and has been translated into 12 foreign languages. Gregor’s books are available in hard copy, as eBooks, and as audiobooks, with additional volumes in preparation. Gregor has been invited to teach in many countries and has contributed to and been interviewed by numerous yoga magazines. On Gregor’s blog, chintamaniyoga.com/blog/, you will find over 300 articles, videos, and podcasts on all aspects of yoga, authored by Gregor and his wife, Monica.

Today, Gregor offers an anatomically advanced interpretation of traditional vinyasa yoga, integrated into the practice of the higher limbs in the spirit of Patanjali and T. Krishnamacharya. His quirky sense of humor, his varied personal experiences, and his extensive and profound knowledge of scripture, Indian philosophies, and yogic techniques combine to make his teachings practical, relevant, and easily accessible to all his students.

The town of Nafplio

Our location is Nafplio, a charming seaside town in the eastern Peloponnese, on the Greek mainland, rich in history and natural beauty. Nestled close to the world famous archaeological sites of Mycenae and Epidaurus, Nafplio offers the perfect setting to slow down and be inspired.

The beautifully preserved Old Town invites you to wander through elegant neoclassical streets, discover hidden courtyards with giant bougainvilleas and spacious squares in the shadow of Venetian fortresses, enjoy a coffee overlooking the Argolic Gulf or taste authentic homemade Greek cuisine in local tavernas.

A scenic coastal walk through fragrant pine trees, at the foot of dramatic cliffs, leads to peaceful, less-crowded beaches, creating unforgettable moments amidst the timeless beauty of the Greek landscape.

The town of Nafplio offers everything you need during your stay, while getting around the town is easy on foot.

About the Studio

Please note: Transfers are not included in the workshop fee. The information below is intended to help you plan your journey. If you need any advice, recommendations or assistance before you travel, we are always happy to help.

From Athens International Airport (ATH)

By Bus

Travelling by bus is comfortable, affordable and the option most of our international guests choose.

Step 1
After collecting your luggage, take the X93 Airport Express Bus from outside the arrivals terminal to Kifissos Intercity Bus Terminal.

  • Journey: approximately 60–70 minutes
  • Fare: approximately €5.50

Step 2
At Kifissos Bus Terminal, purchase a ticket for the KTEL Argolida coach to Nafplio.

  • Journey: approximately 2 hours 10–15 minutes
  • Fare: approximately €14.50
  • Coaches operate regularly throughout the day.

The total journey usually takes around 3½ hours, depending on connections.

By Taxi

If you prefer a direct journey, a taxi from Athens Airport is the easiest option.

  • Travel time: approximately 1 hour 45 minutes
  • Typical fare: €180–220, depending on the time of day and vehicle type.

We recommend arranging your taxi in advance through your accommodation or a trusted transfer company from Nafplio.

৹ By Rental Car

Renting a car gives you the flexibility to explore the Peloponnese before or after your workshop.

From Athens Airport, simply follow the motorway towards:

Elefsina → Corinth → Tripoli → Nafplio

The roads are modern, well signposted and easy to navigate.

  • Driving time: approximately 1 hour 40–50 minutes, depending on traffic.

From Athens

If you are already staying in Athens, make your way to Kifissos Bus Terminal.

You can reach it by:

  • Bus 051
  • Taxi (approximately €10–15 depending on your location)

From there, take the KTEL Argolida bus to Nafplio.

Alternative Airport

Kalamata International Airport (KLX) can also be used, particularly if you are planning to explore the southern Peloponnese.

However, transfers to Nafplio are longer and less convenient without a rental car, so we generally recommend flying into Athens International Airport (ATH) whenever possible.

Once You Arrive in Nafplio

One of the things our guests love most about Nafplio is how wonderfully walkable it is.

From the studio you can easily reach:

  • the Old Town
  • cafés and restaurants
  • supermarkets
  • the waterfront
  • beaches
  • museums and historical sites

In most cases, you won’t need a car during your stay. Simply enjoy wandering through the charming streets, discovering hidden corners, and soaking in the relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere that makes Nafplio such a special place.
